Window tint darkness
- Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line. However, a clear untinted film for UV purposes can be applied to the full windshield
- Front side windows of a Coupe, Sedan or Station Wagon: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
- Back side windows of a Coupe, Sedan or Station Wagon: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
- Rear window: of a Coupe, Sedan or Station Wagon Must allow more than 35% of light in.
- Back side windows and rear windows of a Truck, Van or SUV are not restricted on darkness.
Window tint Reflection
- Front side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective.
- Back side windows: Must not be more than 20% reflective.
Other North Carolina window tint law regulations
- Red, amber and yellow colors are not permitted.
- Certificates: Film manufacturers are not required to certify the film they sell in this state.
